Why do you blog?

Every blogger must have had a reason for starting his or her blog. I can't imagine that anyone would just radomly decide 'Hey, let me start up a blog even though I have nothing to say!' I believe we all have something we want to talk about, something to share. Perhaps your blog is about a particular subject you are interested in. Maybe you write stories. Or you may journal your whole life or post photos or share your comedic effects with others or maybe your friend has one and you thought, why not?

I did not start my blog as a journal, to share details about my life before total strangers. To tell the truth, I don't really feel that comfortable opening up to strangers nor care for anyone to think that they really know me. Of course, there have been times that I have written some very personal thoughts (especially as of late), but my blog wasn't intended for that. At least it wasn't intended to share that type of personal information (love, personal problems, etc.) However, there was a part of me that I did want to share or I wouldn't have started this blog.

I began blogging to share a part of myself that no one around me, except Best Friend could fully grasp. You see, I am a wanderer, a drifter, a girl continuously reaching out for a new taste of the world yet coming back home hungrier than ever. I long to travel and experience new things. I long for adventure and thrills. I like to push my physical limits sometimes and see what I can accomplish. And every now and then, I like to find myself lost in a strange place.

I get strange looks and comments when I say things such as I think I will go to Germany next week, I am going to backpack for a week through Montana, I want to stay in a tree bungalow in the Costa Rican rainforest for a few days, or Anyone up for a weekend in London?. For better or for worse, I have no fear when it comes to jumping head first into things like this. Other aspects of my life are a completely different story. But this blog is about my wanderlust, so I digress. It has been brought to my attention more than once that I must be crazy to live my life like this. Yet I can't see any other way to live my life.

To my surprise, I actually have come across other bloggers who appreciate this aspect of my life and enjoy reading about it and even a couple who say they feel the same way. It's a good feeling to know that I am not the only drifter out there.

Speaking of...I have a few things that I am planning with Best Friend that I am very excited about! We are planning a trip to Costa Rica soon, going back to Europe in the spring, and backpacking the John Muir Trail from Yosemite to Sequoia/Kings Canyon National park over about 5 days. Who knows? We might even have time to climb Mt. Whitney before calling it a done trip!

So what part of yourself do you share through your blog?

You know, it's funny... I don't remember now what the purpose of my blog was originally. I know I had a purpose in mind, but whatever my thought was of what it would be is not what it became. I do remember that I kinda thought the idea of a blog was stupid and I only started one due to Natalia's encouragement. I didn't think blogging would keep my interest for long. My handle was me trying to be silly and funny and if I had known I would still be blogging today I would have picked something different. But, right off the bat I found myself being drawn to a few blogs in particular and I guess it's because of the intrigue I found in some fellow bloggers that I'm still here today.

As for what I share about myself it's kind of a random thing. The most important details of my life almost never get mentioned, but in some areas I share more. I often think to myself "Oh, that was funny/interesting/thought provoking, I should write about it on my blog" but when I actually sit down to type something different and totally insignificant comes out. It seems that whenever I am tempted to write about something that's serious in my life - love, heartbreak, internal struggles, a friend's drug addiction, my divorce - and truly open up and share more about myself, those are the moments when I find myself typing out the most meaningless posts. Perhaps it's best when I stick to the fluff.

But I do enjoy the exercise of writing about life... regardless of which elements of my life I choose to share.

I blogged to get laid but it never materialized :(

I can't say why I started my blog, not that I don't want to, but just that I don't actually know. I think that it was just a random thing and here I am nearly two years later still at it.

I do admire your wanderlust. Would love to do the hike you are contemplating.

I started my blog because my Sweetie was fooling around trying to come up with creating a website about his "buttcans"... a small box for which to put your cigarette butts in if you are a smoker, rather than throw them on the ground when you are out and about. I liked the thought of creating a website, and actually being published! I like seeing pictures, and writing about stuff that is interesting - so it continued. Travel is another great thing - when I read others' blogs, I actually get to travel away from my own mundane existence and join others in their journeys. I love having the opportunity to blog, share, interact with others, and oh, yes, keep in communication with my sisters who live far away from here via their blogs. It is simply for my own enjoyment that I blog. Selfishness at its best :)

I started t blog in lj to keep up with people and to let others knowabout me, this was shortly afer S passed away. it was also to get out things i needed to say.

I think that maybe you are not as strange as you think you are. and those looks that you think mean that people dont understand you are really people wishing they were more like you.

more people get it then just one.

Blog blog blog!
I really enjoy your blog BECAUSE it's a super-charged life you live. That go-go-go! I can identify with, I've got it myself, but finances don't allow me to jet off to London for a weekend. Rats!
Why do I blog...so many reasons. I love writing, so that's fun for me. I like sharing my notions with the world, my friends and (I was going to write family, but I don't think any memembers of my family read my blog!) any one else who is kicking around.
I blog. Therefore I am.
